NFS:SA Crew Showdown Tournament

While playing on the server, you are a lone wolf. You may associate yourself with a crew, but in the actual races, you're on your own, while the crews are just there for representation. This tournament aims to change that.

Prove to everyone that there's more to being in a team than just reputation!
Prove that you roll with the best and can beat the rest!
Prove that your crew can take on any challenge, win any duel and conquer all opponents!

I would like to cordially invite everyone to what may potentially be the first Crew Showdown Tournament!

How will the tournament look?

The Crew Showdown Tournament is a series of closed lobby events, where crews of 7 players put forward their racers to battle in multiple one-on-one sprint races. In one match, at least 4 and up to 7 races may take place.
Winning one race yields the winner's team one point. The first team to reach 4 points - which means winning 4 races - wins the match! A crew which puts forward its best racers may win the tourney quickly within just four races, but if their competitors also play to their best, it may mean a 3:4 score for someone!

If only 2 full crews are assembled, the tournament will only consist of one match.
If 3 full crews are assembled, the tournament will consist of three matches (1: Crew A vs Crew B, 2: Crew A vs Crew C, 3: Crew B vs Crew C).
If 4 full crews are assembled, the tournament will consist of three matches - semifinals AvB and CvD will decide who plays in the final match.
For any other numbers, the Challonge bracket generator will be used to decide the format.

All races will be broadcasted on Twitch.tv, on a channel that will be provided at a later date. To achieve that, players will race in passworded lobbies, with the camera car joining in third (to ensure that both players start in front of the start line, and the camera car is behind them).

What's in it for the players?

In the current state of affairs, no rewards can be promised, outside of being able to consider yourselves the Winners of Crew Showdown Tournament, Season 1! Tongue
I'd like to make it clear - as of writing this, I am not in a financial situation that would allow me to sponsor any rewards. Any and all rewards will be a contribution of either outside donators or the NFS:SA team (if they graciously decide to sponsor premium rewards for all 7 members of any winning team). However, right now I cannot promise anything.
The lack of a tangible reward shouldn't be a problem to a crew that really considers themselves the best. Go out there and prove it! Tongue

I don't have a crew! / My crew doesn't have enough players!

That's not a problem at all! Crews which submit for the tournament don't have to be actual crews on NFS:SA - the term means any group of players united under one name! If you don't belong to a crew, you may act as a stand-in for a crew in the tournament. Likewise, if your crew is missing a couple of players, you may ask other people to act as said stand-ins.

If you would like to assemble a group of players from multiple crews, that's also allowed, as long as everyone in the group provides the same crew name in the submission form.

If a player drops out of the tournament, their crew will be expected to find a stand-in or any other replacement. If the crew fails to submit a stand-in, they will be disqualified from the tournament.

When is it happening?

The initial date for the tournament is set to 09.07.2018, Polish time (GMT+2). If any changes are made to any part of the tournament - including the scheduled date - players will be notified in advance.

W temacie: Additional Suggestion: Advanced Crew System

Personally, I don't exactly see the point in diversifying the crew system. There's no need for the distinction between teams, crews and official crews, in my opinion. I'm against this suggestion, personally speaking.

W temacie: Crew Showdown - an idea of how to organise team-based competitions

Odpowiedzi: 2

02-04-2018, 13:04

I'll preface this by saying that this is not a suggestion of a feature for the server. I'm pretty sure that it would take a lot of coding and time to add something like this - and our dev team is already getting tired of making new features for our enjoyment. This is an idea how to organise showdowns between crews - or not just server crews, but any group of people.

*TBD = To Be Determined

=======================

Crew Showdown is an organised tournament between two groups of people (alternatively, said tournaments could be a part of a bigger, greater-scale tournament). Two crews of 5 players (OR 7 players) assemble a team for a Best Of 5 (OR Best Of 7) tourney.

FLOW OF THE EVENT:
The first part of the tournament consists of player applications. Teams submit their rosters to the Arbiter (player name, the car (or cars) they will be using, nationality, times when they're available) beforehand, so everything can be organised.

The second part is the actual game.
Before the game begins, players take turns banning TBD* of maps from a pre-screened pool of TBD* race tracks from the Sprint mode until 5 (OR 7 depending on the size) tracks remain. Once the map pool is selected, the Arbiter (person leading the event) randomizes the pool to select the first map. Once the map is revealed to the teams, both groups decide which player they want to appoint for the race.

Once each team has appointed a member for the race, both of them receive a password to a Custom Race lobby where the race will take place. There will be three people in the lobby - the two players, who will be competing in the race, and the third player, whose time does not count and who is only there to oversee the race (and write down the times).
Once the race is finished, the team whose player has won receives one point. The next map is selected by the losing team. After that, the process repeats - the teams appoint one player each, however it cannot be someone who has already raced in the tournament.
The tournament is over once one team reaches 3 (OR 4) points.

=======================

Once again, this is just a rough concept of how I would personally envision a team-based competition on the server. Feel free to provide feedback and critique of the concept (as long as you keep it constructive and civil!) :]

W temacie: Collisions in races

Odpowiedzi: 6

14-01-2018, 12:13

NFS:SA allows you to race with people from all over the world - which means that there might be enormous ping discrepancies between players. When your ping differs from the other player, information is sent to the server at a different speed - information such as your position, and that includes whether you collided with someone and such. If the NFS:SA Team was to enable collisions during races, you'd basically have what you can already see in Freeroam when you bump into someone - it's a coin flip, a 50-50 chance that either you or the other player will be sent flying and the other person will merrily go on their way, almost like they never hit anything.

I'm against this idea. I prefer races to be a test of skill and whether the player can adapt to the track or not. Having your race ruined by someone PIT Maneuvering you into a wall is anything but that.

Temat: About obtaining the Deluxo...

Odpowiedzi: 38

08-01-2018, 23:30

Disclaimer: While writing this thread I've tried to remain impartial, however I can't promise that the end result won't be subjective.

-=-=-

Let's start the thread by coming out with the grand statement it will revolve around...
The current method of unlocking the Deluxo is fundimentally a bad design.

Now that I've thrown this out, allow me to elaborate upon the topic.

I'd like to make it clear - I completely understand the reason why the unlock requirements for the Deluxo are so steep. It's meant to be a reward for the most dedicated players willing to log on every day. That is perfectly acceptable and I have no issue with that - giving people a greater reason to play on a regular basis is a good idea. It lets the server grow a community of regular players. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

However, 50 days of consecutive logging in, day after day, is... a little bit too demanding... at least in my opinion.

Let's look at it from a different viewpoint.
50 days are almost two months. Almost one sixth of an entire year. A lot of things can happen during that time. Over time, various events pop up, some of which may force us to be unable to play, or even access the computer at all. For example, I already have something scheduled within the next 34 days (I have finished DH #16 today; about 34 more days to go), and this effectively means that I know I won't be able to get the Deluxo because of that scheduled event. I will be away from my home - this event will also make me unable to access any sort of a computer. I cannot reschedule it in any way, nor can I arrange to take my PC with me. I would also prefer not to share my account with others. I've never done it on any service I've used and I'd rather not start doing it.
The aforementioned event will be happening about four weeks from now. My current DH streak for the Deluxo is already dead n-nani?! and I have no way to save it.

I'd like to suggest a change to the current requirements of unlocking the Deluxo. There are two ways to go about this, from my point of view.

a) Scale down all DH-related milestones to a lower amount.
Proposition A is a change to the current milestones. In my opinion, the maximum streak which unlocks unique rewards for regular gameplay should be 30 days. We have much more control over a month's time than we do over two months' worth of time. It's easier to schedule various events so that we know when we're surely going to be able to play on the server for at least those ten minutes every day.
Arguably, losing a Magazine Run streak is also an annoyance, but you have to notice the huge time difference between DH and MagRuns - you need to complete MagRuns on just 3 consecutive days for a visual/cosmetic reward, but losing a - let's say - 47 day DH streak delays you from getting a reward which is a new gameplay element.

b) Ditch the streak system and allow DH rewards to be unlocked at the player's own pace.
Proposition B is to get rid of the streak mechanic and make DH events not related to daily gameplay, but rather consistent gameplay. This way, players will be able to resume the progression any time they like, without making them angry over losing a streak for any possible reason. This system is already employed in the unlocking process for the Locust 69 - you obviously aren't required to win 50 URL Tournaments in a row in order to unlock it. This option doesn't punish players which drop their DH streak for any reason and is sure to prevent players from getting angry over a lost streak.

All of the above is, obviously, just my opinion on the matter. Everyone is free to agree or disagree, however I strongly believe that the current 50 day requirement for the Deluxo is, from a fundimental standpoint, a bad idea.
